Tritina

Today’s prompt was to write a tritina. Last night I couldn’t sleep and was wandering the house at 3 a.m. because something upsetting happened, and that inspired this poem. Whether it turned out “well” or not, I enjoyed writing it and trying a new poetic form that I had never heard of!

I wander the house before it is light,

Waiting for sleep and seeking something new:

Deliverance — despair’s a heavy weight.

It does no good to worry about weight,

In life I seek a different guiding light:

God’s grace is limitless; it makes all new.

He promises today to make me new,

But for others’ understanding I can’t wait,

They go a different way, not in this light.

Newness becomes light; the heavy weight is gone.
