Burning

For this week’s Weekly Scribblings, we are to write inspired by the phrase “A phoenix must first burn.” I wasn’t in the mood to write anything triumphant, so this cherita is where my brain took me this evening.

I don’t want to hear about the phoenix anymore.

No more rising from the ashes anymore,
Who made me a mythical firebird?

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust you shall return —
I don’t mind whether there’s a rising,
At this point solely stop the burning.

  1. I assume in ancient Greek times people started wondering why and why not about life and death and if it could be conquered, thinking that as the most intelligent creature on Earth they would find out…by speculating it and hoped it could be true.

—-Very powerful and eloquent words, my friend. I felt this poem in my heart and soul. The devastation all around us is compounding. I pray for the rising. ❣️

  3. Yes, stop the burning, stop the pandemic, stop the political chaos. Could we just have our lives back, and time for mental rest and rejuvenation!
