My attempt at a Jisei (Japanese death poem) for DVerse MTB. I’m not sure if I did this correctly; I did not use a haikai form but still tried to give it the same style as one. I’m also linking this to MLMM’s Tale Weaver, which is about beginnings. This was inspired by an actual experience I had yesterday, not that I literally saw a ghost, but it felt like it, in a way. Ghosts haunt the streets
As we drive past the college campus
So many memories:
I can see myself
Walking down the sidewalks,
Inside those locked halls
There is pain at the ending
Heart-rending — above all
In the waiting,
For another beginning.
Brilliant. I love the ending.

So sad. With everything closed up these days, it’s only ghosts that haunt campuses. Waiting for another beginning indeed. May it come soon.

That’s a lovely response to the prompt and I’d not heard of Japanese Death poetry before. Thanks for teaching me something new.

I think we shouldn’t be waiting but do the best of what we have today.
