This poem is for DVerse Poetics and is also partially inspired by FOWC: Issue. The line I used as inspiration is below. Also linking with One-Liner Wednesday / JusJoJan for today.
“Airless and unloved, in the dank basement of the mind” L. Igloria ~ A Reparation
Issues pushed away, do not dissipate
What is buried is buried alive
What is hidden away is not hidden
Completely, but continues to cause chaos
And sadness, depression, terror and loss.
To lock oneself away locks only
The path to a life that’s better, less intensity
Yet also much less laughter
A life that is unrooted and diluted —
The unconscious mind is not deluded
And ignorance cannot be bliss here,
For ignored past hurts do not disappear.
You took up the prompt line very well, and I love the expansion into a philosophical message. Thank you for sharing.
The couplets work well here, taking us step by step. I like that.

No way we can keep it under lock and key… it is bound to come back… the reek from the basement will always be felt.
