Leave It

A haibun for DVerse’s Poetics prompt about war poems. I really wasn’t sure about this category of poems, though I did like “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. I also like Wilfred Owen, but as for writing my own….This is what I came up with.

I find myself thinking, “I can’t write a poem about war.” Such violence leaves me word-poor, and any ideas die in embryonic form. There is no beauty in this: There is horror, and my words are woefully insufficient, short.

  1. Although I’ve written a few poems about war in the past, I too found this prompt very challenging, Jenna. Your approach to it is excellent and I love the haiku!
