The Places We Have Passed

For FOWC: Spot and MVB: Road. I am also linking to the Friday Writings (on a Sunday). The prompt is optional, yet this happens to relate tangentially because of the pain of loss. This poem was written while thinking of those people who affected my life in a hugely positive way, yet who are no longer a large part of my life. It’s horribly painful when friends grow apart, even if there’s not a particular reason for it, other than lives diverging. Anyway, without further ado…

I spotted a rest stop, on a very long road,
Grateful for the fellow traveler who showed
Me the way to this welcoming place of respite,
So that I might not altogether quit —
And for a time he even chose to sit
With me — Eventually it’s time to go.
He left. New roads and destinations follow.

  1. We are always grateful for those people who have played a positive part in our lives. But sometimes, the time they spent with us may not be long, we move on our own paths.
Your poem reminds me of that. 🙂
