The Tomb of Jonah

I found this quotation for One-Liner Wednesday while perusing my old, purple poetry notebook last Friday:

IF I should pass the tomb of Jonah
I would stop there and sit for awhile;
Because I was swallowed one time deep in the dark
And came out alive after all.

          Carl Sandburg, from “Losers”

Back then, I was a huge fan of Carl Sandburg, and that poem is a good one. If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, it’s obvious why that portion of the poem, which is the first stanza, speaks to me.
