Ode to the Air-Conditioner

For FOWC: Sustain and the prompt at My Vivid Blog, “tops.” I am also sharing with DVerse’s open-link night.

Hard to sustain this August heat:
I hope the temperature will not beat
100 degrees, wish it would stop
At 90 tops — but thankfully
The air-conditioning runs breezily,
A saving grace from summer sun,
It’s glorious and helpful hum.

Like Water in the Desert

A 40-word free-verse poem for the Weekend Writing Prompt and for MLMM’s Saturday Mix: Opposing Forces. I’m really liking the Weekend Writing Prompts, especially when they are short. 🙂 My poems tend to be relatively short.

Too much time in the desert,
The drought-dry place starved of rain,
Always wondering, waiting, praying for an oasis —
Found when an act of love
Triumphs over unkind rays of hate:
It’s not a mirage, although
It may be brief.

Saving Two Birds with One Poem :)

Today’s FOWC is Idiom, and I wasn’t sure if it was possible to use the actual word “idiom” in a poem, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and participate in Fandango’s Flashback Friday. 😀

This is a poem that I posted exactly 5 years ago. The original post is here. I’m grateful for this one. Good job, Jenna from 5 years ago!

When life is hard and full of sorrows,

You hold them in Your hand.

You, who with all grief acquainted,

Are stronger than this world’s sand.

Hold me tightly my dear Savior,

And redeem this day,

May I be safe in the Beloved,

And in Your goodness stay.

Jenna from 5 years ago then adds, “There is always, always hope.”

A Lighter Blue

This week’s décima has the word “wake” (well, almost) in the B rhyme line.

“This too shall pass”: the words are true;
The rising sun makes Earth awake,
Past shadows of night start to shake
Off, making room for what is new.

The sky is of a lighter blue
That speaks of peace and happiness,
That does not need to be flawless
To find delight: with clouds in sight,
Eyes recognize shapes in the white
Fluffy mountains of cumulus.

Chocolatey

Today has been a wonderful day! I got to see my “grandma” for the first time since last March. I wanted to write something about that, but I’m not getting inspired to write very much today. Here is a cinquain I wrote: After I baked brownies, I figured they needed an ode! XD Shared with the Writers’ Pantry at PSU. The picture is not of my brownies, unfortunately.
