She is a morning person,
Yet she finds occasions often
To sleep in, wanting to snuggle:
Waking up can be a struggle,
When the blanket is warm, inviting
And her dreams seem to be writing
A better story than reality —
Sometimes she’s too sleepy.
Sometimes there is a fierce rivalry between the desire to not waste the best part of the day, and the desire to just ignore the day.
For DVerse quadrille today, De says “the sky’s the limit!” This is also linked to FOWC: Doleful. The sky where I am today is far from doleful. 🙂 It’s a welcome change from a week or two ago.
Looking out the front window, I see sun:
The season’s listing toward September,
And the sky’s no longer filled with embers
Sometimes reality crashes
Into my saccharine reveries, frowns
Find my face, but blue is not doleful
Above, in that heavenly place.
For Quadrille Monday today, we are all eavesdropping. This was a hard word to use, especially in a creative way. I hope you all like it. By the way, this is based on truth, but hopefully I don’t overhear too much!
I do not eavesdrop
So much as others’ words
Float up, and sometimes far
To my open ears —
I may be nosy, and
So it appears,
But I prefer the term
“Curious,” hope it makes no one
Furious. Who knows
How ears can close?
Summer has been a bummer,
But the mind is my delight.
If my face has looked glummer,
I’ve still been able to find bright
Spots: no job but lots
Of music, reading, and poetry.
I am happy to not need
Busy-ness as a bumblebee.
For Quadrille Monday this week, Victoria asks us, “How does your garden grow?” I’m a day late with this, but here is mine. I might add pictures later.
Everything that she touches dies.
So the garden in front of these eyes
Was planted by her brother’s loving hands.
Her heart such beauty understands,
In awe of God and human skill
Under the sun, her spirits rise.
Gratitude and peace her worries still.
DVerse is back, after a 2-week vacation, so here is a quadrille containing the word “blue.” This was written as a sort of response to Robert Frost’s poem “Fragmentary Blue,” which Kim shared with us.
I think we make a big deal
Of those fragmentary blues
Since they speak to our souls
About the Love deep as the ocean,
About the true Heaven
For which the sky is a mere comparison:
True light glints off
Glimpses of these fragments.
At DVerse, for quadrille Monday, we are drumming! I have many positive associations with drums and drumming, so this was fun, but still difficult to write one that I wanted to share. Tell me what you think about this. 🙂
Words are pounding in my mind,
They can’t sneak out of this skull,
But need a pen as a conduit:
My heart speaks nervousness
As it drums against the lungs
Like bongos :
I need to let
The words go
She often reads intentions
Which do not exist
In her male friends’ actions:
This hopeless romantic
Might be melted by a smile
Or any surprising kindness,
The distance twixt her daydreams
And the truth being miles.
Unguarded heart needs to be fixed!
