All God’s Creatures Thank Him

Shared with the Writers’ Pantry at PSU. Inspired by one of the psalms that I read this morning. ๐Ÿ™‚

The little bird, when it chirps,
Does it speak to its Creator?
Before it carries away crumbs,
Does it thank God for what comes?

The majestic eagle, when it flies,
One higher does it recognize?
Him who gave it talons and wings,
Deserves great praise from all things.

Why?????

Day 15 of JusJoJan is themed, “button.” All I could think about was the expression “cute as a button.” My mom used to make photo albums (she still does, usually on the computer, though), and I remember seeing a page from when I was 2 or 3 years old, and I was probably 8 or 9 at the time. On the page was a cutout of a pink button with that phrase next to it.

My very literal, 8-year-old brain was perplexed by that, so I asked my mom, “Why does it say, ‘Cute as a button? Buttons aren’t cute.”

“It’s an expression,” she tried to explain.

Undeterred, I insisted, “But why?????

I don’t remember how that situation resolved, but my mom certainly had a lot of patience with little Jenna. She may have gotten annoyed at my persistent questions (asking the questions that really matter, hahaha), but at least I was cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

This post basically turned into an SoCS-style post, due to the fact that writing a poem about buttons proved impossible for me today. ๐Ÿ™‚

Shiny Dreams

This is for Linda G. Hill’s coloring club for this month. I colored it today.ย

There once was a cat on a cloud

Who loved to take in night’s dark shroud,

Because all the stars

And planets like Marsย

Finally to shine were allowed.ย

I made up the limerick off the top of my head because why not. I know planets don’t shine, but in my colorful dream-world they do. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Within the Lines

This is for Linda G. Hill’s coloring club for this month. I have colored several pictures, and here is one of them, plus part of another.

I also wrote a poem inspired partly by the coloring pages, since they can be quite fantastical! We color within the lines but can choose any picture we want. ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Sharing with today’s Writers’ Pantry.

The rules say color within the lines,
But the artist’s mind divines
How to within the form be free,
Or to trash it, if need be:

These rules don’t dictate what to draw —
Let one’s artistry be raw —
Nor which colors one must use.
If some are fixed, there’s more to choose!

Galactic Sweetness

Inspired by theย Weekly Scribblings and by the page that I colored, I wrote this poem.ย The coloring will be shared with Linda G. Hill’sย coloring club, and I’m also linking this to Fandango’sย dog days of August #6 because cats are pets. ๐Ÿ™‚

I wear my heart on my sleeve
So swift to sadden but even
Quicker to smile or grin —
From cats’ cuteness to cupcakes
Or ice cream’s scoop of delight,
I look at the stars and see
Of sweetness there’s a galaxy.IMG_20200806_095400
