Rowing

Inspired by MLMM’s photo challenge #328, I wrote this cherita,

Rowing the boat across something so pure and pristine —

Are you rowing on freshly-fallen snow?
A blanket underneath a remarkably blank, white sky?

And the other man with you — is he Charon?
Is this Styx? Are you rowing into a void,
Which none of us knows and none can avoid?

Long Flight

This is my response to the Saturday Mix (on a Monday), “opposing forces.”

When the plane departed it was dark;
Now upon arrival the sky is light:
Time passed faster, going west to east,
From resting place to whence the sun comes.
Now, after this long flight she finds
A place where maybe she can stay.

Rhyme Time!

I apologize: This seems to be the only way that I can fit all five of those rhyming words in one poem. This dark limerick is for today’s Saturday Mix on MLMM.

He’d wanted a wife his whole life,
But marriage with conflicts was rife —
So sad and defeated
He felt that he needed
To end all that strife with a knife.

Every New Start

This is for MLMM’s Tale Weaver prompt and this week’s décima challenge, where we are supposed to use the word “wind” in the B rhyme spot. Follow the links for more info!

The close of day is no dead end:
Though the path out may wend and wind,
The pinkish dawn is ripe to find
A better way, and hope, to tend.

The close of day is wont to send
Symbolic messages of fear;
Ignore that siren-song and steer
Away from treacherous creatures.
Nightmares to dreams: morning features
New rosiness of life to cheer.

What Is the Hunter Hunting?

This was inspired by this week’s paint-chip poetry. Linda asks us to write about the key to happiness using at least 4 of the colors’ names.

Orion hunts after sunset,
Rising in his night-sky dwelling:
He tries to find a balm for scars,
And aloe vera doesn’t go too far.
He tries to find fame in a red carpet,
But he is made of other stars.
Around him he sees darkness,
But this is no total eclipse.
He does not know he casts a long
Shadow because he’s already
So close to the light.
